Painting FAQ
Q. Is it really necessary to put a primer coat on before applying the paint?
A. Yes. The bonding primer that we use will help further seal your home from moisture infiltration. It also gives the finish coat something to stick to, which will give your paint job several more years of life, which in turn saves you money in the long run. We do use a product from Sherwin-Williams called Duration as well as a product from MAB paint called Sea Shore. These products are a self priming paint which does only require 1 coat. Again, it has a primer built into the paint which gives you the primer coat.
Q. Why do you brush and roll instead of using a sprayer and then back rolling?
A. The only advantage to spraying and back rolling is for the painter! The brush and roll process takes more time because you are actually touching the areas to be painted by hand twice. This gives you more coverage and a thicker coat of paint. Again, the difference is several years more paint life.
Q. Do you always scrape and caulk, or is it just sometimes?
A. We scrape and caulk every house. Most of the time we will power wash, however that is not always necessary.
Q. How long should I expect my paint job to last?
A. If the painter uses the proper steps, i.e. cleans, scrapes, primes, brush & roll, etc., you can expect 5-7 years. It is possible to get as much as 10 years, however the average in central Indiana is 5-7.
Q. Do you offer any kind of a warranty?
A. Yes, we offer a 1 year labor warranty and the manufacturer offers a satisfaction guaranteed warranty. If there is going to be a paint failure do to application or product, the problem will usually show up within a matter of weeks. The reason we offer the 1 year warranty is to simply give you peace of mind.
Q. What if I simply cannot pick a color that I like?
A. We would be more than happy to assist you in picking a color scheme. Ultimately the final decision is yours, however we can give you our opinion on what family of colors would work with your home
