Preperation is one of the biggest contributing factors in a good and lasting paint job.
We powerwash most of all the homes that we paint. In some cases however, powerwashing would not be recomended such as homes built prior to 1978 if lead based paint still exists as well as certain sub-straights where powerwashing would cause damage.
In any event, cleaning the surface, scraping and using a good quality caulking material is very key to the preperation process.
A complete primer application is also a contributing factor. In most cases we will tint the primer at a 70% strength in pigment so that it gives a strong first base coat in regards to the final color.
A full primer coat also gives continuity to overall outcome of the finish coat which helps alleviate waviness and shadowing. Some companies will simply spot prime and over time you will see fading in different spots on your home.
It goes without saying that a high quality finish coat will then help your paint job last for many years. (usually you can expect a good paint job to last 5-7 years in the state of Indiana with some jobs lasting in upwards of 10 years depending on what type of siding that you have).
Application, application, application!! I cannot emphasize anymore how important that it is to have your home brushed and rolled.
Alot of our competition will spray on the paint and then back roll. They can typically beat us in price because it takes them less time in labor, which is by far the most expensive part of a paint job.
Brushing and rolling however will give you a much thicker coating process which will allow your paint job to last longer.
Saving a few hundred dollars upfront simply doesn't make sense if you have to paint your house 2-3 years sooner! Let's face it, painting is one of those maintenance issues that homeowners have to deal with and when you are paying good money why not make it last?
